ALMA and Finlayson Turn Lesbian Visibility Into Art
Finlayson and ALMA Transform Home Textiles Into a Celebration of Lesbian Love
A duvet cover may seem like an unlikely place for social change. But Finland’s iconic design brand *Finlayson is proving that visibility can exist everywhere — even in the spaces where we rest, dream, and feel most at home.
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Finnish singer-songwriter ALMA, Finlayson has launched The Findyke Collection, a bold and deeply personal collection that places lesbian love, queer identity, and authentic representation at the center of everyday life.
The collection is already generating significant attention across Finland, with some items selling out shortly after launch.
*Finlayson is a historic Finnish textile brand and company founded in 1820 by Scottish engineer James Finlayson in Tampere, Finland. It is famous for home furnishings, bedding, and iconic design patterns, and it played a pioneering role in Finland's industrial history
A Collection That Refuses to Hide
For decades, queer women — particularly masculine-presenting lesbians — have remained largely absent from mainstream design, fashion, and advertising.
The Findyke collection challenges that reality.
Created through a collaboration between ALMA, Finlayson, and acclaimed artist-photographer Ano Miettinen, the collection transforms real photographs of queer women and couples into striking textile patterns featured on bedding, satin pillowcases, apparel, and lifestyle products.
Rather than relying on illustrations or abstract graphics, the designs are built from authentic moments and real people.
The result is both intimate and unapologetic.
More Than Design, It’s Visibility
At its core, Findyke is not simply a product launch. It is a statement about who deserves to be seen.
The collection's name references the reclaimed word “dyke,” a term historically used as an insult against lesbians but embraced by many within the LGBTQ+ community as a symbol of pride, resilience, and identity.
“Ultimately, it’s a very simple matter. No one has the right to judge consensual love between adults. With this collection, we want to remind everyone that love belongs to everyone and that all love stories deserve to be seen,”
By reclaiming that language and placing queer stories front and center, the collection creates space for conversations about representation that remain necessary even in some of the world's most progressive societies.
For ALMA, the project was rooted in a desire to showcase identities that have too often been overlooked.
Historically, masculine lesbians have rarely been represented in mainstream culture without being forced into stereotypes, explanations, or softened portrayals. Findyke offers something different: visibility without compromise.

The Bedroom Becomes a Place for Queer Storytelling
The visual centerpiece of the collection is a series of premium bedding sets featuring photographs transformed into large-scale artistic patterns.
Among them are the striking Love Rave and Lovers designs, both created from studio photography capturing genuine connections between women.
The collection combines powerful imagery with sustainability, featuring GOTS-certified organic cotton and Finlayson’s commitment to long-lasting quality.
But beyond materials and craftsmanship, the project carries a larger cultural message.
It asks a simple question:
What happens when queer love is treated as ordinary, beautiful, and worthy of everyday visibility?
The answer is a collection that feels both radical and surprisingly natural.
A little more about ALMA
Before becoming one of Finland's most recognizable international music exports, ALMA built a career defined by bold creativity, unapologetic self-expression, and a strong connection to LGBTQ+ audiences.
Born Alma-Sofia Miettinen, the singer-songwriter first gained national attention through the Finnish version of Idolsbefore breaking into mainstream music with a series of hit releases that quickly attracted international recognition.
Her breakthrough singles, including "Karma," "Dye My Hair," and the global hit "Chasing Highs," helped establish her as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary pop. The success of Chasing Highs earned chart positions across Europe, including the United Kingdom and Germany, and opened doors to collaborations with artists such as Charli XCX, Tove Lo, MØ, Martin Solveig, and Felix Jaehn.
As an openly lesbian artist, ALMA has consistently used her platform to advocate for visibility and representation. That commitment is one of the reasons the Findyke collaboration feels so personal.
For ALMA, the project goes beyond design. It is about creating space for queer women, celebrating lesbian identity, and ensuring that stories often pushed to the margins are seen, respected, and embraced.
“Collaborating with Finlayson felt natural because it’s not just about products, but also about shared values. It was important to me to collaborate with a brand that is known for its courage to take a stand on social issues and promote equality. I know that this project will spark discussion and bring joy to those who identify with it,”
Today, ALMA remains one of Finland's most influential pop artists and one of the Nordic region's most visible queer cultural voices—making her partnership with Finlayson a natural extension of both her artistry and her values.
The Bigger Picture
At a time when LGBTQ+ rights continue to face challenges in many parts of the world, visibility remains deeply meaningful.
Every photograph, every campaign, every product that celebrates queer lives contributes to a broader cultural shift.
The Findyke collection reminds us that representation does not always arrive through grand gestures.
Sometimes it appears in the places where we live our daily lives. And sometimes, something as simple as a duvet cover can become a powerful reminder that all love stories deserve to be seen.
