This summer, the renewed Drag-Leidit Laitumella Vol. 2

This summer, the renewed Drag-Leidit Laitumella Vol. 2 brings three new original songs, live music, and audience sing-alongs to summer theatres. The summer tour begins on Friday, July 17, at Helsinki’s Kivinokka Summer Theatre, where every song in the performance will be sung live with piano accompaniment.

Drag-Leidit Laitumella Vol. 2 is a musical summer theatre experience. The show features three new original songs composed and written specifically for this tour and its performers. The themes of the songs are hope, freedom, and self-acceptance.

The songs Wonderful Me (Ihana minä) and Hope (Toivo) feature lyrics by Sana Mustonen, recipient of the prestigious Kullervo Linna Award. Mustonen received the 2024 Kullervo Linna Award for her achievements as a lyricist in Finnish popular music. Her lyrics have been recorded by artists including Robin, Suvi Teräsniska, Pate Mustajärvi, and JP Leppäluoto. Vapaus (Freedom) was composed and written by Salla Markkanen. Ihana minä (Wonderful Me) was composed by Pertti Jalonen, Toivo (Hope) by Antti Taipale, and the arrangement of Freedom was created by Iiro Ollila.

“Summer is a time for singing together. We wanted to create a show where music brings people together and where the audience is also part of the evening. The new songs were created specifically for this production, and through them we want to tell stories of hope, freedom, and self-acceptance,”

says performer Antti Taipale.

Audience participation is an essential part of the performance. Beloved Finnish pop classics such as Sata salamaa, Aikuinen nainen, Tahdon sinut, Huone 105, and Paloma Blanca will be sung together with the audience. Lyrics will be distributed to spectators so that the entire audience can take part in the communal sing-along experience.

Antti Taipale & Pola Ivanka

“I have been doing drag for nearly 30 years, and I have never experienced anything like this. It has been moving to see an audience of hundreds of people singing the same songs together. In that moment, there are no longer performers and audience members as separate groups—everyone becomes part of the same summer evening. This shared joy of singing together is exactly what has made the Drag-Leidit Laitumella tour so special,” says performer Pola Ivanka.

Last summer, Drag-Leidit Laitumella attracted more than 1,600 spectators across Finland. This summer, the tour returns on a larger scale, featuring new music, audience sing-alongs, and live performances.

The summer tour begins at Kivinokka Summer Theatre and continues to several locations throughout Finland.
